Perhaps buying a convertible in middle age or while heading toward retirement is not a crisis after all.

Perhaps it is simply a very enjoyable reason to get outside, put the top down, and experience the morning light.

That does not make a convertible a medical treatment. But morning light, healthy sleep, regular movement, good nutrition, and metabolic health all contribute to the environment in which your body functions and recovers.

That matters when preparing for PRP injections or bone marrow concentrate procedures.

We spend a great deal of time searching for ways to look younger, feel stronger, think more clearly, and recover more effectively. Yet one of the most important parts of healthy aging is already working quietly inside nearly every cell in the body: the mitochondria.

PRP Injections in Dallas: We Want Repair Without Supporting the Repair Environment

Mitochondria are commonly called the “powerhouses of the cell.” They convert energy stored in nutrients into ATP, the usable energy required for movement, nerve signaling, cellular maintenance, and tissue repair.

They do not directly convert sunlight into energy. Sunlight influences the body through several different mechanisms:

  • Morning light helps regulate circadian rhythm and sleep.

  • Ultraviolet B exposure initiates vitamin D production in the skin.

  • Red and near-infrared light are being studied for their effects on mitochondrial signaling.

These are important biological processes, but they do not prove that sunlight reverses aging or guarantees healing.

The more practical question is this: Are we giving the body a reasonable environment in which to recover?

Poor sleep, physical inactivity, inadequate nutrition, smoking, excessive alcohol use, metabolic disease, and circadian disruption may all work against healthy cellular function.

This does not mean mitochondrial dysfunction causes every symptom. It means that cells involved in adaptation and repair require energy, adequate nutrition, appropriate mechanical stimulation, healthy circulation, and time.

PRP and bone marrow concentrate are intended to influence the local biologic environment. However, even a technically precise procedure exists within the patient’s larger physiology.

The Solution: Build a Healthier Recovery Environment

Begin With Morning Light

Getting outdoors after waking provides a strong daytime signal to the circadian system. A morning walk, coffee on the patio, or a top-down drive can make this habit much more enjoyable.

This does not mean staring at the sun. It means allowing ordinary outdoor light to reach the eyes indirectly.

Morning and daytime light exposure may help support a more consistent sleep-wake cycle. Better sleep does not guarantee a better PRP or bone marrow concentrate result, but chronically poor sleep is not the recovery environment I would choose.

Be Sensible About Sunlight and Vitamin D

The skin produces vitamin D in response to ultraviolet B exposure. How much it produces varies according to age, skin pigmentation, season, latitude, clothing, time of day, and other factors.

There is no universal prescription for the exact number of minutes everyone should spend in the sun. More is not necessarily better, and burning the skin is never the goal.

It is also too broad to say that sunscreens are “toxic.” Some sunscreen ingredients can enter the bloodstream, but absorption alone does not establish harm. Excessive ultraviolet exposure, however, is clearly associated with premature skin aging and skin cancer.

A balanced approach may include reasonable outdoor time, shade, protective clothing, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and testing vitamin D levels when clinically appropriate. People who prefer mineral sunscreen may choose products containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Vitamin D deficiency can also be addressed through diet or supplementation without attempting to obtain all necessary vitamin D through ultraviolet exposure.

Understand NAD⁺ Without Believing Every Longevity Promise

NAD⁺ is a coenzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism, DNA repair, and signaling. Common NAD-related products include nicotinamide riboside, or NR; nicotinamide mononucleotide, or NMN; and direct NAD⁺ formulations.

Human studies indicate that NR and NMN can increase certain NAD-related biomarkers. What has not been established is whether those laboratory changes consistently improve energy, strength, appearance, longevity, or recovery after an orthobiologic procedure.

I personally take my NAD-related supplement in the morning because I find that taking it later can interfere with my sleep.

That is my experience—not a universal dosing rule. The appropriate product, dose, and timing depend upon the individual.

Supplements should support a thoughtful health plan, not replace one.

Move, Strengthen, and Nourish the Body

Regular aerobic exercise and resistance training are among the best-supported ways to encourage mitochondrial adaptation and preserve function with age.

Before a PRP or bone marrow concentrate procedure, this may mean maintaining general conditioning without repeatedly aggravating the injured structure. After treatment, it means following a progressive rehabilitation plan, neither remaining completely inactive nor doing too much too soon.

Adequate protein, micronutrients, hydration, metabolic control, and avoidance of smoking may also support the body’s general recovery capacity.

Cells cannot build tissue from optimism alone.

More supplements are not necessarily better. A focused, individualized plan is more defensible than an indiscriminate collection of products labeled “anti-aging.”

Preparing for PRP and Bone Marrow Concentrate Procedures

PRP injections and bone marrow concentrate are forms of orthobiologic treatment.

Patients sometimes encounter these procedures while searching online for “bone marrow stem cells.” The more accurate term for the procedure discussed here is bone marrow concentrate, or BMC. It is a same-day preparation derived from the patient’s own bone marrow and contains multiple cell types and signaling components. It is not an isolated, purified, or laboratory-expanded stem-cell product.

Neither PRP nor bone marrow concentrate replaces sleep, rehabilitation, strength, or metabolic health. A supplement also cannot compensate for an inaccurate diagnosis or an imprecisely placed injection.

In my Dallas and Plano practice, preparation begins with a complete structural and functional evaluation. Depending upon the condition, that may include:

  • A detailed history and physical examination

  • Review of MRI and X-ray findings

  • Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound

  • Evaluation of biomechanics and joint stability

  • Identification of the structures contributing to pain

  • A realistic discussion of treatment and rehabilitation

I also consider the environment into which the procedure is being introduced.

Is the patient sleeping adequately?

Is there a vitamin D or nutritional deficiency?

Is protein intake sufficient?

Is diabetes or another metabolic condition reasonably controlled?

Is smoking affecting vascular and tissue health?

Is the rehabilitation plan appropriate for the structure being treated?

No clinical evidence currently proves that NAD⁺ supplements, additional sunlight, or “mitochondrial activation” improves the outcome of PRP or bone marrow concentrate procedures.

The more scientifically responsible conclusion is that cellular repair requires energy and that general health can influence recovery capacity.

Can Better Mitochondrial Health Make You Feel Younger?

Improving sleep, movement, nutrition, and metabolic health may help some people feel more energetic and function more effectively. These changes may also benefit mood, body composition, and appearance.

But reversing aging is not an evidence-based promise.

The more credible goal is preserving health span: the strength, energy, clarity, and mobility required to continue doing the things that make life meaningful.

That is also the goal of joint preservation.

We are not trying to make an MRI look 25 years old. We are trying to identify the pain generator, evaluate the complete functional unit, and determine whether a precise, nonsurgical strategy may help preserve function.

A Better Kind of Transformation

Healthy aging is not about pretending that time has stopped.

It is the deliberate preservation of energy, mobility, resilience, and choice.

Morning light.

Better sleep.

Progressive strength.

Adequate nutrition.

Thoughtful supplementation.

Sensible protection from excessive ultraviolet exposure.

And when pain begins to threaten mobility, it means looking beyond a single phrase on an MRI or an automatic path to surgery.

You may still buy the convertible.

Just do not call it mitochondrial medicine.

Call it a beautiful reason to get outside, enjoy the morning, and remain fully engaged with life.

Prepare the Patient, Not Just the Procedure

If joint or spine pain is limiting the life you have worked hard to build, the next step should not be an exaggerated promise. It should be a precise evaluation.

I provide physician-led, image-guided evaluations for PRP injections and bone marrow concentrate procedures in Dallas, North Dallas, Preston Center, and Plano.

The purpose is to identify the structures contributing to pain, determine whether joint-preservation options may be reasonable, and develop an individualized treatment and recovery plan.

Schedule an Executive Orthobiologic Evaluation to learn whether a nonsurgical, image-guided approach may be appropriate for you.

Individual results vary. PRP and bone marrow concentrate procedures are not proven to reverse aging, regenerate all damaged tissue, prevent surgery in every case, or guarantee improvement in pain or function.
