I think we can all agree that keeping your body in peak condition is a smart move—especially when you're striving to stay active and vibrant, whether you're recovering from an orthobiologic procedure or simply wanting to live your best life. After all, orthobiologic treatments help repair and may help restore joints, but keeping your entire body healthy is what helps you maintain those results long-term.
At Pain Experts, we emphasize not just repairing the joint but also making the whole body a healthy home for those joints. That includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, doing things that bring you joy, and—let's not forget—supplements to support your overall well-being. Supplements are an excellent way to optimize your health, but there's one major hurdle: consistency.
The Problem: Sticking to a Supplement Routine
Let’s face it—taking supplements regularly can feel like a chore. I get it, because I’ve been there too! Over the years, my supplement routine grew to the point where I had about 20 different supplements to take before bed. All those jumbo-sized bottles for economic conservation filled a duffel bag, and each night I’d get out my water bottle and down a bunch of capsules and pills right before brushing my teeth.
It became something I did out of duty, not because I looked forward to it. Adding even more supplements felt impossible. I thought, "How can I possibly swallow one more pill?" That's when I discovered a better way.
The Solution: Finding What Works for You
Instead of adding more pills to my regimen, I found an alternative: bulk, non-GMO, organic supplements in powder form. Now, instead of choking down more capsules, I just mix a quarter teaspoon whatever amount directed of each supplement into my morning coffee or smoothie. This approach not only saves me time, but it makes it so much easier to incorporate more nutrients into my daily routine.
For example, in my own morning routine, I’ve added things like:
Chromium
Creatine hydrate
Organic cinnamon bark extract
Organic mushroom powder (including turkey tail and chaga mushroom)
HMB (beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate)
Gymnema extract
Before, I would have been stuck taking even more pills, but now I’m seamlessly adding these supplements to my day with minimal effort. And the benefits? My immune system feels supported, and my blood sugar management is much more consistent.
Incorporating Supplements: What This Means for You
Finding the right supplement routine is highly individual. It's important to talk to a holistic physician who can guide you on which supplements fit your health needs. But one thing’s for sure—consistency is key. You can have the best supplements in the world, but if you don’t stick to a routine, you won’t get the benefits.
Whether you prefer capsules, powders, or liquid supplements, the goal is to find a method that works with your lifestyle and makes it easier for you to follow through. Supplements aren't magic, but when taken regularly, they can support your body and help you stay active and mobile.
What This Means for Doctors
For my fellow physicians, helping patients maintain their supplement routine can make a significant difference in their overall health. Whether it’s for joint support, immune health, or inflammation management, finding ways to incorporate supplements easily into their daily lives is crucial. Offering patients tips on how to integrate powders, capsules, or liquids into their routine can increase their adherence and long-term success.
